Creating music…

Firstly, lets cut right to the chase; I’m not a trained musician, and I’m not particularly good at it, but it does provide a great outlet for my creative urges, and it really is a lot of fun.

More importantly, It also enables me to create custom music for The Honest Guys channel, and record good quality voiceovers, which is how I got into it in the first place.

My music tastes are quite weird and fairly non-mainstream, so it’s not to everyone’s taste. I love to work with the electronic music genre, Some of the better sounding synths can really give me the goose bumps in the right combination, but also I love orchestral instruments too, so you’ll often hear a Yamaha or a Steinbeck grand piano and strings mixed in with a synthy trance beat.

I have a Soundcloud account where my hobby music is available for anyone to hear if they so desire/dare…

Patience is definitely required for this game. The music tracks can take a long time to make, weeks sometimes, painstakingly created one note at a time.

Equipment:

I use a standard DAW (digital audio workstation) called Logic Pro X, along with an M_AUDIO MIDI keyboard, and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface.

Workflow

I’ll often use a single loop as a baseline or an underscore, and then add to it, building everything up around it, eventually removing the original loop so I end up with an completely original creation.

I’ve been asked on several occasions to make videos on making music. I have attempted it in the past but it’s always proved a very dull and poor viewing experience.

Making music this way is a very mind-intensive task that can take weeks just to produce a single track. It’s incredibly dull to watch and does not make for good viewing. So for now, I’ll have to reserve music making for my own amusement.
